Kammgras
What is Kammgras?
Kammgras, or Cynosurus cristatus, is a perennial grass native to Europe. It is commonly found in meadows, pastures, and grassy fields. Kammgras blooms during the summer and releases pollen that can be a potent allergen for people sensitive to grass pollens.
Why do I have an intolerance?
People with an intolerance to Kammgras pollen react because their immune systems mistake the pollen proteins for harmful substances. This immune response leads to typical allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, a runny nose, and sometimes coughing or wheezing. Grass pollen allergies are common in individuals with sensitivities to a range of grass species.
What can I do about it?
To reduce exposure, limit outdoor activities during the grass pollen season, especially on warm, windy days when pollen levels are highest. Wearing sunglasses and a mask outdoors can help reduce direct contact with pollen. Indoors, keep windows closed and use an air purifier to filter out pollen. Showering and changing clothes after spending time outside can help remove pollen from your body.
