Lilacs

What is Lilacs?

Lilacs are flowering shrubs known for their fragrant clusters of purple, pink, or white flowers, blooming in spring. Often found in gardens and parks, lilacs are appreciated for their beauty and scent, but they also release pollen that can trigger allergic reactions in some people.

Why do I have an intolerance?

People with an intolerance to lilac pollen experience an immune response when exposed to its proteins. The body mistakenly interprets the pollen as a harmful substance, causing allergic symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and, in some cases, skin irritation upon contact.

What can I do about it?

To reduce exposure, avoid spending time near lilac bushes during their blooming season in spring. If you have lilacs in your garden, consider planting them farther from living spaces or paths. After being outdoors, showering and changing clothes can help remove pollen particles, reducing prolonged exposure. Indoors, using an air purifier can further help manage pollen levels, especially during peak blooming times.
