Manzate/Manex
What is Manzate/Manex?
Manzate and Manex are fungicides that are commonly used to protect crops from a variety of fungal infections, such as late blight, rust, and downy mildew. These products contain the active ingredient mancozeb, which works by inhibiting fungal cell division, thereby stopping the spread of infections.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Mancozeb, the active ingredient in Manzate and Manex, can cause skin irritation, respiratory issues, and eye discomfort. Exposure to this chemical can lead to symptoms such as rashes, headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Long-term exposure to mancozeb has been linked to more serious health effects, including neurotoxic effects, reproductive harm, and potential links to cancer.
What can I do about it?
To minimize exposure, always use protective equipment, including gloves, goggles, and a mask, when handling or applying Manzate/Manex. Ensure good ventilation during application, and avoid direct contact with skin or eyes. If you are sensitive to mancozeb or other chemicals, consider switching to organic alternatives, such as sulfur-based fungicides or neem oil.
