What is Gusathon/Blend 79?
Gusathon, also known as Blend 79, is an insecticide commonly used in agriculture to control a wide range of pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and leafhoppers. It contains the active ingredients imidacloprid and thiamethoxam, which are both systemic neonicotinoids that target the insect’s nervous system. These chemicals disrupt normal neurological function, leading to paralysis and death of the pest.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Gusathon contains powerful insecticidal chemicals that can cause adverse reactions in sensitive individuals. Exposure to imidacloprid or thiamethoxam can cause symptoms like dizziness, headaches, nausea, skin irritation, and respiratory issues. Some people may experience more severe allergic reactions, such as shortness of breath or anaphylaxis, especially if they are sensitive to chemicals used in insecticides. Long-term exposure has also been linked to environmental concerns, such as harming beneficial insects like bees.
What can I do about it?
To reduce exposure, always wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask when applying Gusathon. Use it according to the manufacturer’s instructions and apply it in a well-ventilated area. If you have sensitivities, consider using non-toxic insect control methods, such as neem oil or diatomaceous earth, which are generally safer alternatives for managing pests.
