Tea Tree, New Zealand
What is New Zealand Tea Tree?
New Zealand Tea Tree, also known as Manuka essential oil, is derived from the Leptospermum scoparium plant native to New Zealand. It has a milder, sweeter aroma compared to Common Tea Tree and is cherished for its strong antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties. New Zealand Tea Tree oil is often used in skin care, particularly for sensitive skin and minor irritations.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Intolerance to New Zealand Tea Tree may arise from its sesquiterpene content, which can cause mild skin or respiratory irritation in some individuals. Though generally gentler than Common Tea Tree, its scent can still be intense for those with sensitivities, causing mild headaches or discomfort.
What can I do about it?
To manage intolerance to New Zealand Tea Tree, dilute it well with a carrier oil before applying to the skin, especially on sensitive areas. In aromatherapy, blend it with softer oils like chamomile or lavender to reduce its intensity. Using it in small amounts and in well-ventilated areas can help lessen the impact of any adverse reactions, allowing you to enjoy its therapeutic benefits.
