Tordon

What is Tordon?

Tordon is a selective herbicide commonly used to control woody plants, invasive species, and broadleaf weeds in agricultural, forestry, and landscaping applications. Its active ingredient, picloram, targets specific plant species by interfering with their growth processes, effectively killing or inhibiting the growth of unwanted vegetation while sparing grasses and crops. Tordon is often used to manage large areas of land and maintain the health of natural environments or cultivated fields.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Tordon contains picloram, a chemical known to cause a variety of health concerns, particularly for individuals who are sensitive to chemicals. Exposure to Tordon through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion can cause symptoms such as skin rashes, headaches, dizziness, nausea, and respiratory issues. Long-term or repeated exposure has been linked to more serious effects, including reproductive toxicity and liver or kidney damage. Sensitive individuals, particularly those with pre-existing respiratory conditions like asthma, may experience heightened reactions to the chemical.

What can I do about it?

To reduce exposure to Tordon, always wear protective gear, including gloves, goggles, and a mask when handling or applying the product. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for safe application and avoid using the herbicide on windy days to prevent it from drifting. Consider using non-toxic, organic alternatives for weed control, such as vinegar-based solutions or manual removal methods, if you are sensitive to chemical herbicides.
