What is Kefir?

  • Kefir is a fermented milk drink similar to a thin yogurt or ayran that is made from kefir grains, a specific type of friendly bacteria. It is commonly made with cow's milk, although can be made with sheep and goat's milk. Kefir is commonly drunk to promote gut health. 
  •  Kefir from cow's milk contains 0 - 4% lactose. Kefir also contains many different strains of friendly bacteria, including, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Streptococcus, and Leuconostoc. 
  • An intolerance to this item may indicate gut biome, yeast and fungi imbalance, or an inflamed digestive system.
