What is Fuji apple?
The Fuji apple, developed in Japan, is known for its dense, juicy, and crisp texture, with a balanced sweetness. It has a firm skin, often blending red, orange, and yellow tones, and is a favorite for both snacking and cooking due to its long shelf life.
Why do I have an intolerance to it?
Fuji apples contain proteins similar to birch pollen, which can cause cross-reactivity for those with pollen allergies. Individuals may experience OAS, where the body confuses apple proteins with allergens, leading to mild oral symptoms.
What can I do about it?
To manage intolerance, peeling the Fuji apple or consuming it in cooked forms (such as baked apples or applesauce) can lessen symptoms. If the reaction persists, avoid the fruit altogether and consider alternative fruits that won't trigger a reaction.
