Apple (Gala)

What is Gala apple?

The Gala apple is a small to medium-sized fruit with a mild, sweet flavor and a thin, yellow-red skin. Its fine, crisp texture makes it ideal for fresh eating and adding to salads or snacks.

Why do I have an intolerance to it?

Similar to other apples, Gala apples can cause OAS in individuals allergic to pollen, particularly birch pollen. The proteins in the fruit can mimic pollen allergens, causing tingling, itching, or mild swelling in the mouth and throat.

What can I do about it?

To reduce intolerance symptoms, consider peeling the apple, as most allergenic proteins are found in the skin. Cooking or baking the apple may also neutralize these proteins.
