Apple (Red Delicious)
What is Red Delicious apples?
Red Delicious apples are large, sweet, and easily recognized by their deep red, glossy skin. Known for their juicy and tender flesh, they are most commonly consumed fresh, though they are less suitable for baking due to their softer texture.
Why do I have an intolerance to it?
Like other apple varieties, Red Delicious can trigger OAS in individuals allergic to birch pollen.
The body reacts to the apple's proteins as if they were pollen allergens, resulting in symptoms such as itching, tingling, or swelling in the mouth and throat.
What can I do about it?
Peeling the apple or cooking it in dishes can help alleviate symptoms by breaking down the allergenic proteins. If symptoms remain, Red Delicious apples should be avoided entirely.
