Ash

What is Ash?

Ash trees (Fraxinus spp.) are large, deciduous trees known for their distinctive compound leaves and tall, straight trunks. These trees are found in temperate regions around the world and are valued for their strong wood, which is used in furniture and flooring. Ash trees produce small flowers that release large quantities of pollen in the spring.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Ash pollen is a common allergen that can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Symptoms include sneezing, nasal congestion, watery eyes, and asthma. People who are allergic to other tree pollen, such as birch or oak, are more likely to have a reaction to ash pollen as well. In some cases, the pollen can exacerbate asthma symptoms in individuals who are already prone to respiratory conditions.

What can I do about it?

During ash pollen season, minimize time outdoors, especially on windy days when pollen is dispersed. Keep windows closed at home to reduce indoor exposure, and use air purifiers to filter out pollen.
