Black Flag/Raid
What is Black Flag/Raid?
Black Flag and Raid are brands of insecticides used to control pests like mosquitoes, flies, ants, and cockroaches. These products are designed for both indoor and outdoor use and contain a variety of active chemicals, including pyrethroids, that disrupt the nervous system of insects, leading to paralysis and death.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Black Flag and Raid contain chemicals like permethrin, cypermethrin, or other pyrethroids, which can cause skin irritation, respiratory distress, and eye discomfort when exposed. People with sensitivities may experience symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, coughing, sneezing, or allergic reactions like rashes. Long-term exposure to pyrethroids has been associated with more severe health effects, including neurological issues and liver damage.
What can I do about it?
To avoid exposure, wear gloves, goggles, and a mask when handling these products. Ensure good ventilation when using them indoors and avoid inhaling the fumes. If you are sensitive to chemical insecticides, consider using natural alternatives like citronella, essential oils, or diatomaceous earth to control pests without the risks posed by synthetic chemicals.
