Cajeput

What is Cajeput?

Cajeput essential oil is extracted from the Melaleuca tree’s leaves, producing a fresh, medicinal aroma similar to eucalyptus. It’s valued in respiratory care, often used to relieve colds, flu symptoms, and muscle discomfort through balms and inhalants.

Why do I have an intolerance?

The cineole content in cajeput oil, which contributes to its scent and effects, may trigger intolerance in some users. Sensitive skin may react with redness or irritation, while inhaling the oil could cause mild respiratory issues or headaches. Those with eucalyptus sensitivities may be more prone to experiencing intolerance to cajeput.

What can I do about it?

To reduce reactions, try diluting cajeput oil significantly or switching to gentler alternatives like lavender or chamomile, known for their calming effects. Avoid inhalation if you experience discomfort, and consider other oils with respiratory benefits, such as peppermint or eucalyptus blends that contain lower cineole levels.
