Coffee (Black)

What is Black Coffee?

Black coffee is a brewed beverage made from roasted coffee beans and water, without adding milk, cream, sugar, or other flavorings. It is known for its rich, bold flavor and high caffeine content. Coffee is consumed worldwide and is a popular morning drink due to its stimulating effects from caffeine. It also contains antioxidants and essential nutrients like magnesium and niacin.

Why Do I Have an Intolerance to Black Coffee?

Intolerance to black coffee can stem from its caffeine content, which may cause gastrointestinal issues, such as acid reflux, stomach upset, or diarrhea, in sensitive individuals. The acidity of coffee can also irritate the stomach lining.

Additionally, compounds in coffee, like chlorogenic acids, can exacerbate digestive discomfort. Some people may have a sensitivity to certain proteins in coffee beans, leading to symptoms like headaches, jitteriness, or palpitations.

What Can I Do About It?

If you experience intolerance to black coffee, try reducing your intake or switching to a low-acid coffee variety. Decaffeinated coffee might be an alternative, as it contains less caffeine.

Consider trying other warm beverages like herbal tea or chicory root coffee, which are gentler on the stomach. Avoiding coffee altogether and monitoring your diet for other potential triggers can also help manage intolerance symptoms.
