Cypress, Taiwan (Formosan)
What is Cypress, Taiwan (Formosan)?
Taiwan (Formosan) cypress essential oil is distilled from the wood of the native Chamaecyparis formosensis tree, which has a warm, woody, and slightly spicy aroma. Often used in aromatherapy, this oil is appreciated for its grounding, stress-relieving effects and is known to promote a sense of calm and mental clarity. Its earthy aroma also makes it popular in meditation and relaxation practices.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Sensitivity to Taiwan cypress oil may result from its pinene and terpinene compounds, which can be irritating to the skin and respiratory systems in sensitive individuals. Those who react to other coniferous or wood-based oils may find similar reactions with Formosan cypress oil, especially in high concentrations.
What can I do about it?
If Taiwan cypress oil causes irritation, reduce your exposure by diluting it or using it only in diffusers at low levels. For a more skin-friendly option with similar grounding properties, try cedarwood or juniper berry essential oils. These alternatives offer comparable aromatherapy benefits with less potential for irritation, allowing you to enjoy a calming experience.
