Dalmatian Sage
What is Dalmatian Sage?
Dalmatian sage essential oil is distilled from the leaves of the Salvia officinalis plant, known for its robust, herbal aroma. Often used in aromatherapy, it is prized for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and clarifying properties. This oil is a popular choice for natural cleaning solutions and skincare products as it’s believed to support a clearer complexion and can help uplift and purify the environment.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Intolerance to Dalmatian sage essential oil may arise from its high thujone content, a compound that can be harsh for sensitive skin and respiratory systems. For some, even small concentrations of thujone can cause irritation or discomfort. People with sensitivities to strong herbal or camphoraceous scents may experience adverse reactions to this oil, especially if used in concentrated forms.
What can I do about it?
If Dalmatian sage oil causes discomfort, avoid applying it directly to the skin and reduce its concentration in diffusers. Gentler alternatives like clary sage or rosemary essential oil can provide similar aromatic benefits without the intense thujone content, offering a softer approach to purification and mental clarity while minimizing potential irritants.
