Dandelion

What is Dandelion?

Dandelions are hardy, perennial plants recognized by their yellow flowers and distinctive puffball seed heads. Commonly found in gardens and grassy areas worldwide, they’re resilient and often considered weeds.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Dandelions produce pollen that can trigger allergic reactions in some people. While mild compared to other pollen-producing plants, dandelions may cause reactions like sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes. Contact with dandelion sap may also cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals.

What can I do about it?

Limit exposure to dandelion pollen by staying indoors during its peak pollen season, typically in the late spring and early summer. Consider using a HEPA filter in your home to reduce airborne pollen levels. Wearing gloves when gardening can help prevent skin irritation from dandelion sap, and promptly washing exposed skin can reduce the risk of a reaction.
