Dock Leaves

What is Dock Leaves?

Dock leaves are large, leafy plants commonly found in meadows, pastures, and near water sources. Known for their high oxalate content, dock leaves are often considered weeds. Some people are sensitive to oxalates, which can cause reactions in those prone to intolerance.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Dock leaves contain oxalates, which, when ingested or handled, may cause reactions in those with oxalate sensitivity. For people with sensitive skin, direct contact with dock leaves can cause itching or rashes. Additionally, if oxalates accumulate in the body, they may contribute to kidney stone formation in susceptible individuals.

What can I do about it?

To avoid reactions, steer clear of handling dock leaves directly, especially if you have a history of skin sensitivity. When hiking or spending time outdoors, wear gloves and long sleeves to limit contact. Regularly washing hands and exposed skin after outdoor activities can also help.
