E129 Allura Red
What is E129 or Allura Red?
E129, or Allura Red, is a widely used synthetic red dye found in soft drinks, candies, snacks, and certain desserts. It is an azo dye, commonly chosen for its stability and vibrant red hue.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Intolerance to E129 could arise from the body's sensitivity to azo compounds, which may provoke allergic-type reactions. Some people may experience symptoms like skin hives, swelling, or even digestive issues. In some cases, azo dyes are linked to hyperactivity, especially in children.
What can I do about it?
Avoid foods with E129 by reading ingredient lists and choosing products free of synthetic dyes. Many companies offer natural alternatives to Allura Red, such as beet or paprika extracts. Choosing dye-free or naturally colored food products will help manage any intolerance symptoms.
