E133 Brilliant Blue
What is E133 or Brilliant Blue?
E133, also known as Brilliant Blue FCF, is a synthetic blue dye used in foods, beverages, and cosmetics. It provides a bright blue color and is commonly found in candies, soft drinks, and icing. This colorant is widely used due to its vibrant hue and stability across various food products. It’s also utilized in certain pharmaceutical applications, giving medications their distinctive blue shade.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Some individuals may have intolerance to E133 due to sensitivity to synthetic chemicals. This intolerance can manifest as mild allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, hives, or gastrointestinal discomfort. The artificial nature of the dye can cause the body’s immune system to overreact, mistaking it as a harmful substance, especially in individuals with a predisposition to food sensitivities.
What can I do about it?
If you experience symptoms of intolerance to E133, it is advisable to avoid foods and products containing this dye. Always check ingredient labels on packaged goods and opt for natural alternatives, like foods colored with plant-based ingredients such as spirulina or blueberry extracts.
