E316 Sodium erythorbate
What is E316 or Sodium erythorbate?
Sodium erythorbate (E316) is a preservative and antioxidant used in processed meats, canned fruits, and beverages to maintain color and freshness. It prevents oxidation, keeps foods looking appealing and increases their shelf life.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Intolerance to sodium erythorbate may develop from repeated exposure to food preservatives. The body might not effectively break down synthetic compounds like E316, leading to symptoms such as digestive discomfort, headaches, or skin irritations. Over time, a buildup of such additives can result in hypersensitivity.
What can I do about it?
To avoid symptoms, it’s best to limit processed foods and read ingredient labels closely to avoid E316. Switching to fresh, preservative-free foods can greatly reduce exposure. Home-cooked meals using natural ingredients are a safe alternative to processed foods that may contain sodium erythorbate.
