What is Neotame (E961)?

Neotame, represented as E961, is an artificial sweetener that is approximately 7,000 to 13,000 times sweeter than sucrose. Developed as a derivative of aspartame, neotame is unique in that it is stable under heat, making it suitable for cooking and baking. Its use spans a variety of food products, including beverages, dairy products, and processed foods. 


Why do I have an intolerance?

Intolerance to neotame may arise from sensitivity to its chemical structure or the body's inability to metabolize certain components effectively. Symptoms of intolerance could include headaches, gastrointestinal issues, or allergic reactions. Additionally, those with phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic disorder, should avoid neotame because it contains phenylalanine, a substance they cannot process adequately.
