False Acacia

What is False Acacia?

False acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia), also known as black locust, is a fast-growing tree with fragrant white flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. While attractive for landscaping, the tree’s pollen can be a source of allergy symptoms for sensitive individuals.

Why do I have an intolerance?

An intolerance to false acacia pollen occurs when the immune system overreacts to its proteins. The body releases histamines in response to what it perceives as a harmful substance, resulting in sneezing, itchy eyes, nasal congestion, and sometimes respiratory symptoms like coughing or wheezing.

What can I do about it?

To reduce exposure to false acacia pollen, avoid spending time near blooming trees during the pollen season. Keeping windows closed during peak pollen times and using air purifiers indoors can help reduce exposure. After being outside, washing your skin and changing clothes can help remove pollen particles.
