Fennel
What is Fennel?
Fennel essential oil is extracted from the seeds of the Foeniculum vulgare plant. It has a warm, sweet, licorice-like scent and is often used to support digestion, promote relaxation, and alleviate stress. Fennel oil is also known for its ability to balance hormones and provide relief from menstrual discomfort.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Fennel essential oil may cause intolerance due to its high trans-anethole content, which can be sensitizing for certain individuals. Those with sensitive skin or allergies to anethole-rich plants may experience irritation, particularly when the oil is applied directly to the skin.
What can I do about it?
To avoid irritation, consider diluting fennel essential oil or using it in a diffuser at a lower concentration. If fennel oil is problematic, try alternatives like ginger or peppermint essential oil, which can provide similar digestive and relaxation benefits without the potential for irritation.
