What is Balsam fir?

Balsam fir essential oil is obtained from the needles of the Abies balsamea tree. It has a fresh, clean, and slightly sweet aroma reminiscent of a pine forest. Balsam fir oil is known for its grounding, calming properties, and is often used to reduce stress, promote respiratory health, and soothe sore muscles.


Why do I have an intolerance?

Intolerance to balsam fir essential oil may occur due to its terpene content, particularly limonene and alpha-pinene, which can cause irritation in those with sensitive skin or respiratory systems. People prone to reactions to pine-based oils may experience discomfort when using balsam fir in concentrated forms.


What can I do about it?

To avoid irritation, dilute balsam fir essential oil before use, or opt for diffusing it at a low concentration. Substituting it with a milder oil like lavender or cedarwood can still provide grounding and stress-relieving effects without causing sensitivity.
