Galbanum

What is Galbanum?

Galbanum essential oil is extracted from the resin of the Ferula galbaniflua plant, known for its sharp, green, and earthy aroma. This oil has been used since ancient times for its spiritual and healing properties. It is commonly used in aromatherapy to reduce stress, promote emotional balance, and improve focus. Additionally, galbanum oil is believed to have anti-inflammatory and rejuvenating properties, which makes it useful in skincare.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Intolerance to galbanum essential oil may be due to its high levels of terpenes, such as alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. These compounds, while beneficial in small amounts, can be too harsh for individuals with sensitive skin or respiratory systems. Galbanum’s strong, pungent scent may also trigger discomfort in those sensitive to intense, resinous aromas.

What can I do about it?

To avoid reactions, dilute galbanum oil thoroughly before applying it to the skin or reduce its use in aromatherapy. If galbanum proves too intense, consider using gentler oils like lavender or chamomile for emotional balance and relaxation, which are less likely to irritate sensitive users.
