Lavandin

What is Lavandin?

Lavandin essential oil, a hybrid of lavender species (Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifolia), offers a slightly sharper, more camphoraceous aroma compared to true lavender. It’s prized for its relaxing and uplifting properties, widely used in aromatherapy to reduce stress, improve mood, and alleviate minor aches. Lavandin oil is also popular in household products due to its fresh, clean scent and antibacterial qualities.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Some individuals may experience intolerance to lavandin due to its camphor content, which can cause mild respiratory or skin irritation. Its stronger scent compared to lavender can be overwhelming for those sensitive to highly aromatic oils or with respiratory sensitivities.

What can I do about it?

To reduce sensitivity, use lavandin in small quantities or dilute it further with a carrier oil if applying to the skin. When diffusing, try blending it with softer essential oils, like lemon or chamomile, to balance its potency. This can allow you to benefit from lavandin’s relaxing properties while minimizing the chance of irritation.
