Magnesium

What is Magnesium and where is it found?

Magnesium is a mineral commonly found in the environment in minerals like magnesite and dolomite, and is also present in natural waters. Dietary sources of magnesium include green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and legumes. In consumer items, magnesium is used in dietary supplements and as a component in various alloys and industrial materials.

Why do I have an inflammatory reaction to Magnesium?

An inflammatory reaction to magnesium can occur due to hypersensitivity or an allergic reaction to magnesium supplements or magnesium compounds. This might be due to the body’s inability to properly metabolize or handle excess magnesium, leading to gastrointestinal distress or systemic inflammation.

What can I do about it?

If an inflammatory reaction occurs, reduce or eliminate sources of magnesium, particularly supplements.
