Mandarin

What is Mandarin?

Mandarin essential oil is extracted from the peel of the Citrus reticulata fruit. It has a sweet, fruity aroma that is uplifting and calming. Known for its sedative properties, mandarin oil is often used in aromatherapy to reduce anxiety and promote a sense of well-being. It is also recognized for its skin benefits, helping to balance oily skin and reduce the appearance of scars.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Some individuals may develop intolerance to mandarin oil due to its high content of limonene and other aromatic compounds, which can lead to skin sensitivity or allergic reactions, especially in those with citrus sensitivities.

What can I do about it?

To avoid irritation, always dilute mandarin oil with a carrier oil before applying it to the skin. When using it in a diffuser, begin with a small amount to assess your tolerance. Avoid exposure to sunlight on areas where mandarin oil has been applied, as it can cause photosensitivity. Mixing it with gentler oils, like sweet orange or lavender, can help balance its potency.
