Niaouli
What is Niaouli?
Niaouli oil is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca quinquenervia tree, native to Australia and the South Pacific. This essential oil has a fresh, medicinal aroma and is known for its antiseptic and decongestant properties, making it popular in skincare and respiratory care.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Intolerance to Niaouli oil may arise due to its high eucalyptol content, which can cause skin irritation or respiratory discomfort in sensitive individuals. Those with allergies to other plants in the Myrtaceae family might also react negatively to Niaouli.
What can I do about it?
If you experience intolerance to Niaouli oil, avoid applying it undiluted on the skin and limit inhalation. You might consider using other essential oils with similar benefits, such as tea tree or lavender, which can provide therapeutic effects without the adverse reactions associated with Niaouli.
