Nizoral

What is Nizoral?

Nizoral is a medicated shampoo containing ketoconazole, an antifungal agent used to treat dandruff and scalp conditions caused by fungal overgrowth, like seborrheic dermatitis. It works by targeting the yeast on the scalp that can lead to flakiness, itching, and inflammation, offering a clearer, healthier scalp over time.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Some individuals may react to Nizoral’s active ingredient, ketoconazole, experiencing side effects such as itching, redness, or dryness of the scalp. For people with sensitive or already dry scalps, the strong antifungal properties may exacerbate these symptoms, leading to discomfort or irritation.

What can I do about it?

If you have an intolerance to Nizoral, consider trying milder antifungal or anti-dandruff alternatives like shampoos containing selenium sulfide or zinc pyrithione, which are gentler on the scalp. Regular moisturizing treatments and conditioning can also help alleviate dryness. Reducing shampooing frequency may further protect your scalp if irritation persists.
