Nuvan/Black Flag
What is Nuvan or Black Flag?
Nuvan, also known as Black Flag, is an insecticide used to control a range of pests, including mosquitoes, flies, and other household insects. It contains the active ingredient dichlorvos, which works by inhibiting the insect’s nervous system, causing paralysis and death. It is often used in both residential and commercial settings for pest control.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Dichlorvos can cause a variety of adverse effects, including skin irritation, eye discomfort, dizziness, nausea, and respiratory problems. Prolonged exposure may lead to more severe health issues, such as headaches, nervous system disturbances, and even poisoning. Sensitive individuals, especially those with respiratory conditions like asthma, may experience heightened reactions to this chemical.
What can I do about it?
To minimize exposure to Nuvan, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, wearing gloves, goggles, and a face mask during application. Ensure the area is well-ventilated and avoid inhaling the fumes. If you are sensitive to chemicals, consider using non-toxic alternatives like citronella candles, essential oils, or diatomaceous earth for pest control.
