Pledge Household
What is Pledge Household?
Pledge is a household cleaner and polish often used on wood surfaces like furniture, cabinets, and tables. It’s designed to leave a shiny finish, and its formula often contains both cleaning and conditioning agents, as well as fragrances, to give surfaces a fresh scent. Pledge’s polish formula includes chemicals that can enhance the appearance of wood but may cause sensitivity in some individuals.
Why do I have an intolerance?
The fragrances, solvents, and conditioning agents in Pledge can trigger allergies or sensitivities, particularly in those with asthma or fragrance sensitivities. Inhalation of the product's fumes may lead to symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, and respiratory discomfort. Contact with the product on skin can also cause irritation, especially for those with sensitive or reactive skin.
What can I do about it?
When using Pledge, try to apply it in a well-ventilated area to reduce fume exposure. Wearing gloves can help prevent skin contact, and a mask may reduce inhalation of strong odors. For a gentler alternative, look for fragrance-free or natural wood conditioners and cleaners, or use simple household ingredients like olive oil and lemon to polish wood surfaces.
