Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate

What is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate?

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) is a stable, water-soluble form of vitamin C used in skincare for its powerful antioxidant properties. It helps brighten skin tone, reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation, and supports collagen production, making it ideal for anti-aging and skin-brightening formulas. Unlike pure vitamin C, SAP is more stable and less prone to degradation, making it effective for prolonged use.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Some people with sensitive skin might experience irritation, redness, or dryness when using SAP, especially in higher concentrations. This sensitivity could be due to SAP’s mild acidic nature, which can disrupt the skin barrier if overused. Individuals who are generally reactive to vitamin C derivatives may also experience a similar intolerance.

What can I do about it?

If you find SAP irritating, consider introducing it gradually into your skincare routine by using it every other day and then slowly increasing the frequency. Pairing it with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides can minimize potential dryness. You may also choose lower concentrations of SAP or option for gentler antioxidants like niacinamide if your skin is particularly sensitive to vitamin C.
