Spic and Span
What is Spic and Span?
Spic and Span is a household cleaner designed for multiple surfaces, including floors and countertops. It contains powerful surfactants and cleaning agents that help dissolve grease, grime, and dirt. However, the cleaner also contains chemicals that can be irritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
Why do I have an intolerance?
Some of the active ingredients in Spic and Span, such as surfactants and certain solvents, can irritate sensitive skin or respiratory passages, causing symptoms like rashes, coughing, or eye irritation. Individuals with chemical sensitivities may react more strongly, experiencing nausea or headaches from fumes.
What can I do about it?
When using Spic and Span, wear gloves and ensure proper ventilation to reduce exposure to fumes. Avoid using it in confined areas, and consider using a mask if you’re particularly sensitive to strong cleaners. Switching to milder, fragrance-free cleaning alternatives may help reduce irritation for those with sensitivities.
