Squalane

What is Squalane?

Squalane is a saturated oil derived from squalene, which is a natural component of human skin. In skincare, squalane is prized for its lightweight, non-greasy texture, making it an excellent moisturizer suitable for all skin types. It mimics the skin's natural oils, providing deep hydration, improving skin elasticity, and promoting a soft, smooth appearance.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Squalane is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals, especially those with extremely sensitive skin, may experience irritation or allergic reactions. Symptoms can include redness, breakouts, or a feeling of discomfort, particularly if squalane is included in products with other irritants or allergens.

What can I do about it?

If you find that Squalane irritates your skin, consider switching to alternative oils that are non-comedogenic and less likely to provoke a reaction, such as jojoba oil or rosehip oil. Additionally, look for formulations specifically designed for sensitive skin, and prioritize products with soothing ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile to help calm irritation.
