S.D.A. (Stearidonic Acid)

What is Stearidonic acid and where is it found?

Stearidonic acid (SDA) is an omega-3 fatty acid found in certain plant oils, such as echium oil, blackcurrant seed oil, and hempseed oil. It is a precursor to other omega-3 fatty acids like eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). SDA is present in dietary supplements and some fortified foods.

Why do I have an inflammatory reaction to it?

Inflammatory reactions to stearidonic acid can occur due to individual sensitivities or allergies. The body's immune system might mistakenly identify SDA as a harmful substance, triggering an inflammatory response. Underlying conditions like leaky gut syndrome or imbalanced gut microbiota can exacerbate this reaction.

What can I do about it?

To manage an inflammatory reaction to stearidonic acid, avoid foods and supplements containing SDA.
