Tumeric (Dried)
What is Dried turmeric?
Dried turmeric is a bright yellow spice made from the root of the turmeric plant. It is commonly used in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines for its earthy, bitter flavor and is a key ingredient in curry powders. Turmeric is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties due to the active compound curcumin.
Why do I have an intolerance to it?
Intolerance to dried turmeric may result from curcumin, which can irritate the digestive tract in some people. Symptoms of turmeric intolerance might include nausea, stomach pain, or bloating. It may also trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, leading to skin rashes or respiratory issues.
What can I do about it?
If you are intolerant to dried turmeric, avoid dishes containing it and substitute with spices like ginger or cumin. These spices provide some of the same warming flavors and health benefits without the digestive discomfort.
