Vetiver

What is Vetiver?

Vetiver essential oil is extracted from the roots of the Chrysopogon zizanioides plant, native to India. Known for its rich, earthy, and grounding aroma, Vetiver is highly valued in aromatherapy for its ability to promote calm, reduce stress, and support restful sleep. Often called the “Oil of Tranquility,” it is widely used for its deeply relaxing and stabilizing effects.

Why do I have an intolerance?

Intolerance to Vetiver oil may occur due to its high concentration of sesquiterpenes, which can be overwhelming for those with respiratory sensitivities. Its intense, earthy scent may also be too strong for some individuals, leading to mild headaches or feelings of discomfort.

What can I do about it?

To manage intolerance to Vetiver, dilute it well with a carrier oil for topical use. When diffusing, use it sparingly or blend it with lighter oils, such as lavender or bergamot, to reduce its intensity. Ensuring proper ventilation and limiting exposure time can help make it more tolerable, allowing you to enjoy its grounding benefits in a manageable way.
