What is Rye?

  • Rye is a grain and is traditionally used in bread, but the whole berries of rye can be used like wheat berries: in salads, as a base for grain bowls, or in casseroles/soups/stews.
  • Rye is known to contain Gluten.
  • Rye also contains arabinoxylan, a high amount of starch, and other proteins.
  • An intolerance to this grain may be due to the above compounds, where there is an inflamed digestive system, or where there is an overgrowth of "unfriendly" bacteria or yeast and fungi.
