What is buttermilk?

  • Buttermilk is a fermented dairy drink made from cow's milk. Originally, buttermilk referred to the liquid leftover from churning butter from cultured or fermented cream.
  • Buttermilk contains 0.5 - 1% lactose. Buttermilk also contains Lactococcus lactis or Lactobacillus bulgaricus. 
  • An intolerance to this item may indicate gut biome, yeast and fungi imbalance, or an inflamed digestive system.
