What is Ragweed? (Environmental Toxin - Flowers, Shrubs & Trees)

What is Ragweed and where is it found?

Ragweed (Ambrosia species) is a plant known for its highly allergenic pollen, which commonly triggers hay fever in late summer and fall. Native to North America, it now grows widely in Europe and Asia, thriving in sunny, open areas like fields and roadsides.

Why do I have an inflammatory reaction to Ragweed?

An inflammatory reaction to ragweed is typically due to a sensitivity to its pollen, which is highly allergenic and can easily become airborne. When inhaled, ragweed pollen can trigger hay fever symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and congestion in sensitive individuals. This reaction occurs most often in late summer and early fall, when ragweed pollinates heavily.

What can I do about it?

Stay indoors on high ragweed pollen days, especially in late summer and fall. Rinse your nasal passages after being outdoors to remove pollen. During peak pollen times, keep windows closed to reduce indoor exposure. After spending time outside, wash off any pollen on your skin and hair.
